WHY TO GET THE EARS CROPPED ?
By Dr. Manfredo Werkhauser

The ear crop is not only used for a aesthetic reason, it is vey important
to the breeds that it used for. The dogs can show their feelings, their own
personality. Fear, agressiviness, attention,
charity, pain, sadness, submission,
happiness are expressions easily seen trough the movement
and position
of the ears.
If you crop the ears of the puppy at the age between 55 to 75 days it
is too much easier to get the proper ear set up high. The later you get it done,
the harder to get it right, and even impossible,
because the ears cartilage breaks
as the dog grows older.

The time home after the ear crop is fundamental. Never leave a dog with
had this surgical intervention unattended or with another dog. The partner will
problably chew all the stiches and the bandages out off the head. And also pay some
attention to the place he will be during this time, do not allow him to bang his head
on anything that can do interfere on this healing process that is very important
to the final result.
Finally, we should consider the fact that there are many "ear butchers" ou there.
But only a Veterinarian, whom
deeply studied the breed and the dog anatomy
is capable to realize the proper surgery. It is not really hard to cut an ear.
The hard task is to do it right and optimyze a Boxer good ears set.
